Huelin-Renouf Shipping
A brand new ship has been introduced on a regular “lifeline”
service between southampton and the Channel Islands.
the 165 teu capacity
Huelin Dispatch
made its first scheduled
sailing in the second half of 2012 and now maintains three
crossings a week carrying vital supplies to the people of Jersey,
Guernsey and Alderney.
the vessel loads at the bespoke terminal of Huelin-Renouf
shipping in southampton’s eastern Docks, carrying every cargo
from coal and cars to fresh vegetables and furniture, animal
feed and soft drinks.
“And we pretty much deliver everything to its final
destination on the day of arrival,” said Director nick Gibson. “the
call at Alderney is comparatively new and people tell us it is
great having fresh vegetables again.”
the line carries some 2,000 tonnes of cargo a week, which
arrives at the Huelin-Renouf terminal on as many as 130 trucks
in a single day. the freight is unloaded from the road transport
by Huelin-Renouf staff and then put into containers and loaded
onto the ship by solent stevedores for the overnight crossing
