128INFORMAÇÕES DO PORTOPORT INFORMATIONPort InformationThe second largest port in Mozambique, the Port of Beira is located on the East African coast (Indian Ocean), 20 km from the open sea. Situated at the mouth of the Pungue River at Longitude 34o 50' E and Latitude 19o 50' S, the Port of Beira is primarily a transit gateway, handling import and export cargoes from Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia and other countries in the region. The port handles a wide variety of traffic, including containers, break bulk, general cargo, ro-ro, wet and dry bulks.Approach Channels and AnchoragesThe Port of Beira is a tide-bound harbour with HW springs ranging from 6.2m to 7.4m. Vessels waiting for berthing instructions anchor east of the outer channel. The approach to the Pungue River is obstructed by the sand banks and shoals, which are constantly moving. From the east end of the Macuti Channel (Buoy), the channel is marked by light buoys up to the river’s entrance near the port.Access is made through the 135m-wide dredged Macuti Channel, with an actual minimum depth of 5.5m below the chart datum in the Macuti curve. The maximum accepted draft is obtained by adding 4.3m to the height of the tide at that moment. This includes a safety margin of 1.2m of the keel clearance.Position and characteristics of sea buoysChannel SpecificationChannel width from the PAPA Buoy (P Buoy) to Buoy 6A is 200m minimum; from 6A to Buoy 7 is less than 100m. The length of the channel is 12 nautical miles from P Buoy up to the river’s entrance. The outer channel from A up to P Buoy is 6 nautical miles.Vessels with maximum draft of 4.5m may enter the port at any state of the tide. Deeper lying vessels are required to wait for a suitable height of tide to enter the port.Anchorage/Navigation aidsNavigation aids are:• The landing buoy ALPHA equipped with a RACON Beacon and light signal at the southeast end of the outer channel.Buoy no.P A 1 2 3 3A 3B 3C 4 5 5A 6 6A 7 8 8A 9 10 11 13 W TColourRed Red/white Green Red Green Green Green Green Red Green Green RedRed Green RedRed Green Red Green Green RedRedLatitude19°52’46.4371” 19°55’58.6313” 19°52’47.2680” 19°52’47.5312” 19°53’02.8897” 19°53’41.8658” 19°53’35.1575” 19°53’19.7300” 19°52’37.9602” 19°53’43.3210” 19°53’24.900” 19°53’28.5912” 19°53’15.3726” 19°52’57.1158” 19°53’41.1924” 19°53’47.1261” 19°52’11.990” 19°50’44.6646” 19°51’29.300” 19°51’00.2265” 19°49’58.5725” 19°47’49.1273”Longitude034°57’23.0277” 035°02’56.0833” 034°52’35.5687” 034°55’21.2165” 034°51’50.2669” 034°50’53.3996” 034°51’08.1311” 034°51’12.6310” 034°53’41.0734” 034°50’33.0638” 034°50’03.8900” 034°51’18.9307” 034°51’24.9371” 034°49’46.7983” 034°49’58.7363” 034°51’16.0756” 034°49’30.540” 034°49’13.7526” 034°49’23.090” 034°49’18.5135” 034°49’35.3888” 034°49’32.4828”CharacteristicsF1 R3S W8SF1 G2S F1 G2S F1 R5S F1 R3S F1 G2S -------- F1 R5S F1 G2S F1 G2S F1 R3SQ F1(3)6S F1 G5S F1 (2)R6S --------- F1 R3S F1 R5S F1 G2S F1 G2S F1 R3S ----------PERFIL E DIRECTÓRIA DO PORTO DA BEIRA 2015 | 2016
