Manter-se actualizado com os últimos avanços requer a adopção de uma arquitectura aberta, de normas globais e das melhores práticas internacionais.O Porto de Nacala está a avançar para este ideal, com um número significativo de actualizações realizadas ou planeadas.Anteriormente existiam dois servidores físicos no porto para lidar com a panóplia de necessidades informáticas da empresa. Mas, à medida que o crescimento aumentou, a procura por serviços extra dentro da rede aumentou enormemente. Tornou-se necessário para a equipa informática, constituída por três elementos, melhorar a infra- estrutura. Keeping up-to- date with the latest advances requires the adoption of an open architecture, global standards and international best practice.The Port of Nacala is moving towards this ideal with a significant number of IT upgrades having already been accomplished or in the pipeline.Previously, there were two physical servers at the port to handle the myriad IT needs of the growing company. But as growth continued, the demand for extra services within the network increased hugely. It became necessary for the three- strong IT team to upgrade the infrastructure and a move towards an open architecture was clearly the best option.Accordingly, the port is currently transforming the two physical servers into nine virtual servers that can house the diverse requirements of the port into the foreseeable future, including applications, databases and company-wide systems.Beacon of reliabilityDominating the demand on these servers at the moment is the new Phaeros Terminal Management System, which is streamlining operations throughout the port and improving day- to-day efficiency.Such an overarching feature needs to be reliable and the IT team, in conjunction with the software supplier, is busily ensuring that is the case.
