Este é o único caminho seguro para o crescimento e para o aumento da produtividade.”Na Portos do Norte todos tem oportunidade de crescer e fazer parte da equipa que contribui para o desenvolvimento económico do norte de Moçambique.Estão a ser desenvolvidas ligações mais fortes entre os funcionários e a empresa através de um ambiente de trabalho melhorado, que é positivo para ambas as partes.“É um esforço contínuo e que poderá levar algum tempo a dar frutos”, Bazar sugere. “Mas é isso que nos inspira, em vez de nos assustar.” nVárias tem sido as temáticas sujeitas a formação no Porto de Nacala desde o Planeamento estratégico e controle de gestão, administração e gestão portuária, sensibilização sobre segurança, higiene no trabalho e meio ambiente, simulacro em combate a incendio.Other training initiatives include classes in day-to-day communication in English – the international language of the sea – especially in technical and maritime language. Additionally, partnerships with technical schools are being established enabling the port to award intern placements to students seeking a career in key trades, such as electricians and mechanics.The Port of Nacala is also part of the Association of Mozambique Ports, which is addressing training requirements at the national level.“It is most important to get the operational skillset as good as it can be,” says Mrs Bazar. “Operations are fundamental to the port business and we must be highly skilled in all aspects, from safety to efficiency. This is the only sure path to growth and increasing productivity.”The Human Resources team is also tackling retention of staff. Once skilled, many workers are tempted by the opportunities offered at bigger ports in larger cities. So the HR team is working to demonstrate that workers do not have to look elsewhere for career enhancement. They can grow with the Port of Nacala and the region, making a real contribution to the economic development of Northern Mozambique.Stronger links between the staff and the company are being forged by an enhanced work environment that is positive for both parties.
