Beira. as fozes dos rios Pungue e Búzi unem-se no Canal de macúti, com 27 km de extensão, gerando uma forte sedimentação e bancos de areia em constante deslocamento. após um programa abrangente de dragagem, realizado no início de 2018, o canal de acesso e os cais de acostagem do porto foram restabelecidos para as profundidades cartografadas, permitindo o acesso de navios com capacidade de até 60.000 dWT.Sendo a manutenção do acesso ao porto por mar um desafio, também é a melhoria do acesso terrestre tanto ao porto como à Cidade da Beira. Seria salutar para o porto e para a Cidade da Beira a concretização dos projectos sobre a infraestrutura regional que ofereçam estradas novas e melhoradas, para lidar com o crescimento do tráfego,the other new terminals have all been approved and the sites chosen. the projects were awaiting the outcome of discussions with Government on the extension of cdM’s operating concession. a 15-year extension period was granted in July 2018, enabling cdM to move forward with these major, long-term investments.Under the plans, the port’s Fertilizer terminal will be able to process 7,500 tonnes a day on completion.Meanwhile, the Multi-Purpose terminal expansion will be built in three phases and is expected to increase capacity by up to 200%. the terminal will have a dedicated fertilizer and granite terminal with road and rail network, as well as a new general cargo complex.Serving the terminal will be a new 600m-long Multi- Purpose Quay. land is already reserved for the Multi-Purpose terminal expansion ready for when the major project commences.on the maritime side, the major change would be a proposed public-private partnership for all maritime services, including dredging and pilotage. the Port of Beira has advised that dredging and pilot services should be combined under a single entity as these two services have to operate so closely together.The course aheadof course, challenges remain.
