TerMiNAL De coNTeNToreSfrans van rheedenGestor do Terminal de Contentorescontainer terminal Managerthe Port of Beira has also invested US$6.2 million in upgrading access to the container terminal with  ve new access lanes, helping to increase capacity at peak periods. the terminal has also been expanded by three hectares and the container yard modernized, again with  exibility built into the positioning of such items as lighting poles and drainage systems so that any mode of working – for example with automated stacking cranes – can be accommodated, now and in the future. the improvements have more than tripled capacity, enabling the terminal to handle up to 750,000 tEUs annually.With the current set-up, the Port’s goal is to achieve 36 container moves an hour with each of the two new KoNE cranes – 72 moves when both are working together. Mr. Van rheeden describes this as “pretty ambitious” but reveals that this high productivity level has actually been reached on several occasions. the challenge now is to achieve this rate day-in, day-out, thereby delivering even greater dependability to the Port’s customers.all vessel calls are planned with NaViS N4 XPS and in accordance with ongoing operations in the yard so that disruption is minimized. “We have a dedicated department who handle every call and they create a customised plan for each vessel,” notes Mr. Van rheeden.the container terminal Manager brought more than 20
